I Think I’ve Been Outdone

So I updated you guys last month about the get-togethers my friends and I have been having over the last year. If you forgot you can check it out HERE. Well now that we have been doing it for a full year and we have gone through a complete cycle of hosting it is now officially a thing.  I really like when you start a tradition and you stick to it.  Well this time the party was where it all began and since people have been stepping up their game at every party I anticipated that this one wouldn’t be any different.  Well I was right.  Just wait till you see the stuff that was at this party.

IMG_3713Let’s start with the cheese platter.  At first glance it looks so simple and nicely put together but looks can be deceiving.  Those crackers on the right had all these herbs in them and were extremely tasty and a nice addition to anything you put on it.  But the best part was that half moon of cheese that you see.  It was stark white.  At first glance you would think that it wouldn’t have that much flavor.  Well I was blown away.  The fact that it tasted like there was a mix of herbs and spices in it but that it was pure white was crazy.  It cut like a feta cheese but then it was spreadable like goat cheese.  It was so good.  There was also some herbed goat cheese, turkey pepperoni, and small grapes which were a nice touch around the platter.

IMG_3719The hosts were nice enough to send me home with the rest of the cheese!!!!  If you can find this stuff get it.
IMG_3714Next up was homemade guacamole( the get together was around Cinco de Mayo, so this was a tribute) and plantain chips.
IMG_3715Shrimp cocktail.  Classy.
IMG_3716Some lives and some of the small grapes.
IMG_3717Some tomato and mozzarella skewers over a bed of basil.  I think the 2 colors of tomatoes was a nice touch. Now let’s really get into it.
IMG_3718Mini chicken cordon bleu.  Cheese wrapped in turkey ham wrapped in chicken with some seasoned breadcrumbs on it.  There was an apricot mustard or some kind of mustard fruit mixture that was a dipping sauce.
IMG_3720Next up was the dish that impressed me the most.  Mini chicken and waffles with maple gravy.  What a great idea, right?  There were homemade waffle “fingers” covered in freshly fried chicken tenders.  The chicken was fried perfectly.  It was crispy, tender, juicy, and not greasy at all.  I am not sure why I kept forgetting about taking pictures of the sauces but take my word it was good.  IMG_3721Next was Asian meatballs with dipping sauce.  Yay, finally got a dipping sauce in.  These were really good.  They tasted like the inside of a dumpling.IMG_3722But wait, there’s more.  Next up was lamb tacos.  Ground lamb meat inside scoops topped with some salsa, sour cream, and cheese.  I actually am nit sure if that is what was on top but it looks like it.IMG_3723The last main dish was red pepper quiche. A really cheesy mixture inside pizza dough.  IMG_3725I was tasked with dessert.  Feast your eye on red velvet cheesecake brownies.  Don’t worry I’ll fill you in on the recipe next week.  These were really good.  The only problem was that we refrigerated them and once we took them out we started eating.  I think they would have been better if we let the chill come out of them.

So what do you guys think?  Don’t you wish you were a part of these parties?  Or at least the eating part. LOL.  Not sure if you guys realize how much actually goes into these parties.  With the planning, cleaning, recipe researching, prepping, cooking, cleanup.  It is exhausting and I can’t believe how much they got done.  But in the end it is so worth it.  We always have so much fun catching up with each other and just eating and drinking .  It is crazy how 6 hours can fly by when we have these. So much fun.

Love With Food April

Here we go again.  I hope you aren’t getting tired of my subscription boxes because I know I’m not.  It’s cool to get presents every couple of weeks.IMG_3584 IMG_3585This box was put together by Andrew Zimmern.  At first I was worried that I would get scorpions or some other but in this box but thankfully it wasn’t like that.
IMG_3586Here is the list of all the goodies that were in the box.
IMG_3587 This was a good one.
IMG_3588
This was cool.  It was like mini popcorn.  The only problem was you couldn’t really pick it out of the bag and eat it.  Since it was so small it would have gone all over the place.  Instead I poured it into a plastic cup and just poured it into my mouth that way.
IMG_3589Next up was somersalts.  A little nugget made of seeds and grains.

IMG_3596They looked like this.  Really good crunch factor
IMG_3590Next up was the good been chick pea snack.  I was really excited about this because I just saw these on the news as a healthy snack option.  These were really good.  Nice and spicy and good crunch.  I actually just tried the sweet cinnamon variety yesterday.  Not as good as these.IMG_3591Nest up was a product from pollen ranch.
IMG_3592This was fennel pollen.  A spice you an add to anything.  I haven’t heard about this before and I still haven’t used it.
IMG_3593Olives with lemon and garlic.  I haven’t tried these yet.  I know that olives are a good fat but I can’t get over the amount that is in this little package.  So I just looked at the package again.  I saw something that said 30g when I first looked at it.  Now I am seeing that t is only 6 grams of fat and 50 calories.  WHAT WAS I LOOKING AT?!?!?  I know what I will be snacking on when I get home from work today.
IMG_3594Next up were these coconut milk caramels.  These were amazing.  What can be bad?  They were creamy, chewy, sweet, and salty all at the same time.
IMG_3595Lastly in the box was this creamy buffalo ranch dip.  The thing that I would probably gravitate to the most but I haven’t opened it for fear that I might just chug the whole thing.  I am excited to try this…hopefully soon.

Birchbox Man April

Hey all.  Sorry, I know it has been a while since I posted and I have been backed up with a lot of things to post but I just haven’t really made the time.  For example, I already received my May Birchbox but haven’t even posted the April one.  So let’s get to it.

IMG_3562 IMG_3563 April was about turning it up
IMG_3564
Here is the list of products that were in the box.IMG_3565The first thing in the box was a portable speaker.  You charge it and can bring it with you.  Plug in your phone or ipod and you can turn up the music.
IMG_3566The next things in the box were Kiehl’s facial fuel energizing face wash and StriVectin eye concentrate for wrinkles.  I used the face wash yesterday but didn’t really feel any energizing qualities.  I will try this again because there weren’t instruction on the bottle and I just realized they were on the card that came with the box.IMG_3568Next up was Oribe supershine moisturizing cream for you hair.
IMG_3569The last thing was a vile of atelier cologne.IMG_3570It came with this post card.  Not really sure what to do with it but the blues are cool.

So the main reason I got this box was for the cool not beauty products.  I thought getting some of the face and body stuff would be a bonus.  The only problem is I really haven’t been trying them aside from some of the shave creams.  So I am going to try out some of the stuff I have been getting.  I will update you if I find something that is worth talking about.

That’s it for now.  Hopefully I can get back into some kind of routine of blogging again but I wouldn’t hold your breath.

Chicken, Sausage, and Peppers Panini

This meal came from putting together a multi-shopping trip haul into a sandwich.  A mix of Trader Joe’s and Stew Leonard’s.
IMG_3517
I started by cooking some spicy chicken sausage.
IMG_3518Then I cut up some peppers.  These were called frying peppers.IMG_3519I added the peppers to the browning sausages.
IMG_3520I added a mix of caramelized onions and mushrooms that I cooked a couple of days before.IMG_3521I took the sausage out and cut them into bite size pieces.
IMG_3522I picked up this cheese at Trader Joe’s.  What can b wrong with cheese and beer.  Maybe the color is a little weird but the taste make up for it.
IMG_3523Everything went back into the pan to cook a little more and get the flavors mixing together.IMG_3524I cut up some chicken in thin slices that I had also cooked the day before.
IMG_3525I sliced up the cheese thin to o on the sandwich.
IMG_3526It was time to assemble. First came a kaiser roll.
IMG_3527Cut in half and then some chicken added.
IMG_3528On top of that came the sausage, peppers, onion, and mushroom mixture.
IMG_3529Cheese please.
IMG_3530Top on and ready to go.IMG_3531Panini press action.
IMG_3532I like a good pressed sandwich.IMG_3533This is the final product.  It came out so good.  The spicy sausage, caramelized onions, and cheese were the best part.IMG_3534I love paninis and I think kaiser rolls are my favorite bread to use.  The bread is really soft and it make a really nice crust on the outside.

Fancy Dinner Party

Over the last year some of my friends and I have gotten together every couple of months to host a get together.  It seems like every time the bar gets a little higher what gets served at the party.  We might have to start setting some boundaries if this continues.  If you don’t remember here is the FIRST time, and here is the SECOND time, the one that I hosted.

IMG_3497It started off with a little bread, meat, and cheese board.  There were some preserves and a homemade zucchini thing as well.
IMG_3498There was also an assortment of nibblers.  Almonds, chocolate covered edamame, peanut m&ms, peanuts, craisins, and fruit chews.
IMG_3500
We caught up with each other for a little bit and then it was time to eat. Here is the table set nicely and the plates.IMG_3501The menu was grilled filled mignon with a wine sauce, scalloped potatoes, and asparagus.
IMG_3502Here is a closer look at the steak.  It was a perfect medium rare and so good.  The potatoes were also really creamy and perfectly done.  How fancy is this.  Our last 2 parties were mostly appetizers the the change into a formal dinner was very grown up of the hosts.
IMG_3503For dessert was homemade chocolate chip cookies which were amazing.IMG_3504After digesting our meal for a little we went outside to check out the grill area and oh yeah we grilled a popsicle.  Don’t ask!!

IMG_3506We had a whole lot of fun.  As you can see by the 5 bottles of wine that we finished.
IMG_3507We also ended the night with this guy leaving a note on the blackboard wall for the people coming for the open house the next day.

These parties have been really fun and I am excited for the next one which is coming up in a couple of weeks.  I’ll keep you posted on what goes down.
